12 Questions to Ask a Bridal Makeup Artist Before Booking

A beautiful portfolio starts the shortlist. Clear answers about process, timing and terms help you make the final decision confidently.

This guide is general planning information from Face Desires. Your confirmed services, timings and travel terms will always depend on your individual booking.

Questions about the look

Use the portfolio to begin the conversation, then ask how the artist would adapt their approach to you.

  • Can you show complete, unfiltered examples of work similar to the finish I prefer?
  • How will you coordinate the makeup with my outfit, jewellery and event lighting?
  • How do you decide between a softer skin-led finish and more defined bridal makeup?
  • Can known skin sensitivities or comfort concerns be discussed before the appointment?

Questions about services and inclusions

Do not assume that every bridal booking includes the same things. Ask what the quoted service covers, what is handled by the artist or team and what would be charged separately.

  • What exactly is included in the bridal service?
  • Is a trial offered, and is its fee adjusted against a confirmed booking?
  • Can additional family or occasion makeup be scheduled, and who provides it?
  • Are hair, draping, lashes, lenses or accessories included or discussed separately?

Questions about timing and travel

A wedding-day schedule can affect the experience as much as the creative direction. The artist needs the ready-by time, not only the ceremony time.

  • What reporting time do you need, and how long should I reserve for getting ready?
  • For my venue, what travel or stay terms apply?
  • Will you personally handle the booking, and are any other appointments planned around mine?
  • What happens if the venue access or ceremony schedule changes?

Confirm the booking terms in writing

Before paying, ask for the advance amount, balance due date, cancellation or rescheduling policy and the exact services being held for you. Keep the confirmation and payment record together with the final venue and timing details.

A professional answer does not have to be elaborate. It should simply be clear enough that both sides understand the same booking.

What a good consultation feels like

You should leave the conversation with a clearer idea of the look, the logistics and the financial commitment. The right artist is not only someone whose work you admire; it is someone whose process makes you feel heard and whose terms fit the reality of your wedding day.
